Hujiang Materials Wins the “Green China” Packaging Technology Innovation Award; Its Single-Material PP Solution Leads Industry Upgrading.
At the CPiS2025 Packaging Innovation and Sustainable Development Forum Awards Gala, held on September 23 at the Convention Center of the Park Hyatt Guangzhou, Hujiang Materials was honored with the “Green China” Packaging Technology Innovation Award for its flagship product: a single-material PP high-barrier retort‑compatible composite film and pouch. This accolade not only underscores the company’s robust technological innovation capabilities but also marks a significant breakthrough in China’s single‑material packaging technology, offering a groundbreaking solution to advance sustainable development across the industry.
This award, organized by the prestigious New Lion Media Group, has become a key benchmark for assessing innovation and environmental contributions in China’s packaging industry. The product from Hujiang Materials that won this year stood out thanks to its dual breakthroughs in material innovation and environmental performance.
The award recently won by Hujiang Materials carries significant weight within the industry. The Green Packaging Action Awards (GPA), established in 2011 by the organizers of the China Packaging Innovation and Sustainable Development Forum—formerly known as the “Packaging Innovation and Sustainable Development Award”—was officially rebranded in 2025 to its current name. As a prestigious accolade focused on the green transformation of the packaging sector, GPA is clearly positioned to advance green design, circular economy practices, and sustainable development in the industry. It places particular emphasis on innovative breakthroughs in areas such as packaging materials, structural design, and recycling technologies. The evaluation process rigorously assesses submissions across three core dimensions: technological innovation, environmental friendliness, and economic feasibility, aligning closely with the fundamental criteria of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Renew, and Degradable.”
While traditional high-barrier retort‑ready packaging can meet food‑preservation needs, its mixed‑material construction results in extremely low recycling rates and poses challenges such as high costs and poor degradability. In contrast, this single‑material PP high‑barrier retort‑compatible composite film and pouch, developed by Hujiang Materials, is well suited for packaging applications involving high‑temperature sterilization, such as meat products and ready‑to‑eat meals. With a 100% single‑material composition, it addresses the recycling bottleneck of multilayer composites at the source, perfectly aligning with the global circular‑economy imperatives of “reduce, recycle, reuse.”
Currently, with the implementation of the EU’s PPWR regulation and the advancement of China’s “dual carbon” policy, the packaging industry is under dual pressure—environmental compliance and technological upgrading. Single-material, recyclable solutions have become the core direction of the sector’s transformation. The award‑winning product from Hujiang Materials not only offers food companies a packaging option that combines functionality with environmental sustainability but also sets a benchmark for the industry through technological innovation: balancing environmental protection with performance while achieving cost‑effectiveness and value.
